Ingredients

You’ll only need three or 4 ingredients from your local grocery store.
1 (32-ounce) jar grape jelly
The sweet grape jelly melts into a rich sauce that gives these meatballs their signature flavor.
1 (40-ounce) bottle BBQ sauce
I love using Sweet Baby Ray’s because it creates the perfect smoky, slightly sweet flavor, but your favorite barbecue sauce works great too.
1 (3-pound) bag frozen meatballs
Use your favorite beef meatballs, Italian meatballs, or even turkey meatballs. This recipe works with nearly any brand of fully cooked frozen meatballs.
How to Make Grape Jelly Meatballs
Pour the entire jar of grape jelly into your slow cooker.
Add the bottle of BBQ sauce.

Stir the sauce ingredients together until mostly combined.
Pour in the bag of frozen meatballs.

Stir until every meatball is coated in the sauce.

Cook on LOW for 4-5 hours or HIGH for 2-3 hours, stirring once or twice if possible.
Once the meatballs are heated through and the sauce is thick and glossy, they’re ready to serve!

Serve as Meatball Subs
One of our favorite ways to enjoy these BBQ meatballs is piled onto fresh hoagie rolls.
Simply:
- Toast sub rolls if desired.
- Fill with several juicy meatballs.
- Top with fresh shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Spoon on extra sauce.
The warm mozzarella melts beautifully into the tangy sauce, making these meatball subs absolutely irresistible.

Serve as an Easy Appetizer
Hosting your next party?
Transfer the meatballs to a pretty serving dish or leave them warm in the crockpot and serve with toothpicks.
These make the perfect appetizer for:
- Holiday parties
- Christmas gatherings
- New Year’s Eve
- Potlucks
- Graduation parties
- Birthday parties
- Tailgating
- Game day gatherings
- Super Bowl Sunday
They’re truly a classic party appetizer everyone loves.

Tips for the Best Grape Jelly Meatballs
- Use fully cooked frozen meatballs for the easiest recipe.
- Stir once halfway through cooking time for an even coating.
- Don’t overcook, or the sauce may become too thick.
- Fresh shredded mozzarella melts much better than pre-shredded cheese on meatball subs.
Easy Variations
This recipe is incredibly versatile.
Try adding:
- A splash of Worcestershire sauce for extra richness.
- A pinch of garlic powder.
- A dash of cayenne pepper if you like a little heat.
- Heinz chili sauce instead of BBQ sauce for the classic version many people grew up with.
- Cranberry sauce during the holidays for a festive twist.
- A little hot sauce for a spicy sauce version.
Can I Make Homemade Meatballs?
Absolutely!
If you have a favorite homemade meatballs recipe using ground beef, they’ll work wonderfully. Just be sure they’re fully cooked before adding them to the crockpot.
You can also use Italian style meatballs or turkey meatballs if you prefer.
Storage
Store leftover meatballs in an airtight container or sealed container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.
To freeze, place cooled meatballs into a freezer-safe bag or freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
Reheat on the stove top over medium-low heat, in the microwave, or back in the slow cooker until warmed through.

My Favorite Way to Serve Them
While these make amazing cocktail meatballs, I honestly think they’re even better tucked into soft hoagie rolls with fresh shredded mozzarella. The sweet, smoky sauce soaks into the bread, and every bite is cheesy, saucy, and packed with flavor.
